Down with the Sickness
Ok, so I do like the song...but I could NOT disagree with Disturbed any more on this particular issue. I've been down with this god-damned sickness for more than two weeks now, and I'm really, really not down with it (to use "down" in one of it's other forms; quite a versatile word "down" is). Though I will admit that this is perhaps not the healthiest sort of response and the vehement violence of my distaste for being sick is probably being fueled by the intensity of the song sharing title with this post, being sick for longer than a week is really quite draining and as those who know me are aware, I do sometimes get cranky when I'm tired.
My current feeling shamelessly transcends merely cranky; the passive-aggressive discontentment of crankiness doesn't come close to fitting my state-of-mind. Unfortunately, anger and outward manifestations of fury don't exactly fight illness. I once read a book in which a character's greatest fear was disease, because it was something that couldn't really be fought. Obviously, modern medical technology can deal with some ailments, but ultimately, when you get sick, you either get over it or go the way of the dodo. I'll be honest, at one point last week I was pretty convinced I was headed for the latter, seeing as my hopes for the former have been falling rather clumsily on their faces for the past weeks.
Anyway, on a lighter note, symptoms have been changing (which should signal the imminent demise of whatever manner of parasitic monsters are currently using my body as a combination smorgasbord-skatepark) and I'll hopefully be more inclined to write cheerful and perhaps more enjoyable posts. One last little thing I thought was funny: the medication the doc gave me looks like hot sauce.
9/14/2006 Edit:
As of Tuesday (9/12), it's official that I have mononucleosis; so it seems advisable that I become a little more down with the sickness for the next 6 weeks since I can't do a bunch of things I normally would until then. What a pain...
